Negatieve rente? De ene rente is de andere niet (Dutch)

Het ECB beleid leidt tot lage en soms negatieve rentes in geldmarkten, op staatsleningen en op sommige bancaire producten. In het bankwezen staat de rentemarge onder druk; spaarrentes kunnen slechts beperkt omlaag, terwijl leenrentes verder dalen.

Januari was in Europa een maand van keuzes. Daar hebben we in Europa een enorme vrijheid in. Maar dat wil niet zeggen dat we daarom ook heldere keuzes maken. En ook niet dat we de keuze-opties voor het kiezen hebben. Zoveel werd afgelopen maand wel weer duidelijk.

The economic outlook is improving, public and external balance sheets are healthy, and institutions strong. Denmark’s banking system has become more stable, though large dependence on wholesale funding does pose risks. But, the main source of concern is the very high household debt.

Growth is hampered by weak external demand and private sector deleveraging. Although the banking sector has come a long way in addressing its weaknesses, challenges remain. Danish public finances are healthy.

Barely recovered from the house price correction and the deep 2009 recession, the Danish economy is now hampered by eurozone headwinds. Despite the monetary and fiscal stimulus we expect only meager growth going forward.

So far the economic recovery in Denmark has only been modest. That said, the growth outlook has improved and the government is making progress with budgetary consolidation and more prudent financial regulation.
