Economic Update

Economic Update

Belgium: slow economic growth continues

We expect the Belgian economy to grow by around 1¼% in 2015, supported by household consumption and exports. There will be further economic growth (1½%) in 2016, driven by the global economy and investment, but consumption growth will then slow down.

Belgium: softening domestic demand in 2015

Economic growth in the third quarter of 2014 was 0.3% q-o-q and was mainly supported by private investments and private consumption. Looking forward, domestic demand growth is likely to soften.

Belgium: recovery slows in second quarter of 2014

Recent data shows that the Belgian economic recovery remained in place, but weakened in the second quarter of 2014. Going forward, we expect the recovery of the Belgian economy to continue in the second half of 2014, but the pace is likely to be sluggish.

Belgium: Good things come to those who wait

The economic recovery carries on as growth of domestic demand increases. Fiscal policy will be less distortive next year and inflation remains low. However, high unemployment and also wage moderation still limit private consumption growth.

Declining producer and consumer sentiment points to a very weak pace of economic activity going forward. In addition, the relatively large fiscal adjustment in 2013 will act as a strong headwind to economic growth.

GDP contracted slightly in 12Q4. Growth is expected to have been week across the board and is not likely to rebound strongly in 2013. On the upside, inflation is on a downward trend and agreements are reached to keep labour costs in check.

Economic Update

Economic Update

Economic Update Spain

Austerity measures are clearly having an adverse effect on economic activity. After a relatively modest pace of contraction in the first half of the year, we expect the pace of decline in economic activity to pick up in the second half.

Economic Update

Economic Update Belgium

After the better than expected GDP figure in 12Q1 a new slow down seems unavoidable. We anticipate a contraction of GDP in 12Q2. If the economic weakness lasts, we believe also the labour market cannot remain out of harm's way.

Economic Update Belgium

Recent figures show that the Belgian economy did not experience a recession last year and that 2012 started with growth. Although encouraging, this does not pave the way for solid growth during the course of the year.
