Menno Middeldorp

Chief Economist, Director Knowledge Development Rabobank

Menno Middeldorp is responsible for RaboResearch and the Rabobank’s knowledge agenda.

Menno has over twenty years of international experience in economics and financial markets. Prior to his current role, he was Head of RaboResearch Netherlands and led the team covering diverse aspects of the Dutch economy including macroeconomics, the housing market, sectors, regions and environmental sustainability.

Before that he was an investment strategist at APG, the asset manager of pension fund ABP, and worked at the Bank of England, New York Fed and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. Earlier in his career Menno also held different research positions at Rabobank with responsibilities ranging from interest rates and FX strategy, to the US economy, to the Dutch economy. He has a doctorate in economics from Utrecht University and wrote his thesis on how monetary policy communication impacts the efficiency of financial markets.

The Netherlands: enjoy the view from the peak

This year will probably see the top of the business cycle in the Netherlands. Real wage and jobs growth will support consumption, but signs of a growth slowdown in the rest of Europe pose a risk to export and GDP-growth.
